Ecumenism, from the Greek word "oikoumene," meaning "the whole inhabited world," is the promotion of cooperation and unity among Christians.
This is where the parish reaches out to those of other faiths within its territory according to the norms laid down in the SACBC Eucumenical directory. An ecumenical council is a council called by the pope of the Catholic Church. Representatives of all branches of the church attend. The purpose of these councils is to affirm the doctrines of the church and refute schismatic heresies.
